Supporting the Food Pantries for the Capital District allows interested staff an opportunity to give their time and energy to a simple yet vitally critical cause; providing food for those in need in our Community. This truly inspiring organization provides nearly 3 million meals each year to members of our communities in 4 neighboring counties on limited resources. They rely on donations from private citizens, corporations, and from local retailers via their Food Rescue Program. AOW has served for 4 years as a presenting or lead sponsor of the Harvest Evening Celebration, where local chefs compete for best meals using only ingredients obtained in our local pantries.
An event that speaks to our commitment to this wonderful organization is the Capital Region CANstruction, an annual exhibit and design competition between local architects, engineers, contractors, and students to create structures entirely out of food pantry items. During our 3 short years of participation, AOW has raised over $55,000 for the food pantries which equates to 172 tons of food. CANstruction is a commitment; it is an event that AOW staff commits their energy to for 5 months. It is also an event that has been so graciously supported by our subcontractors, vendors, and friends and we are so very thankful for everyone’s involvement.
