Columbia Greene Humane Society is an animal shelter which provides care, kindness, and comfort to animals that have lost their homes. The shelter was founded in 1955 and since its inception has strived in protecting, nurturing and providing a safe haven for pets. Over the years the existing shelter became outdated and in need of repair.
AOW was honored to be selected to construct the new, modernized facility so CGHS could continue to provide needed community services. The new facility is comprised of three large boarding kennel areas, veterinary clinics, grooming rooms, exam rooms, common spaces, free roam cat rooms and several large fenced in dog runs.
AOW worked hand in hand with both the architect and the owner to ensure that the owner was provided the best product, within budget. By value engineering several items, AOW was able to save the owner money and at the same time provide the expected quality result.
The building itself was designed to be highly energy efficient by implementing several different types of insulation into the building envelope. Spray foam and batt insulation was used on all exterior walls and both blown-in and rigid insulation was used in the attic space. This approach will ensure that throughout the lifetime of this building, substantial cost savings on heating bills will be realized.
